The Other is a collaborative music project, comprised of musicians from Scotland plus those from a lived experience of displacement and immigration.
Our goal is to explore the music of different cultures by developing musical compositions based on the diverse ethnic backgrounds of the various international communities which have come to call Scotland home.
The diversity of their musical and cultural backgrounds, as well as their individual
experiences, has contributed to a highly creative process and has produced some
incredible music.
Our live performances can also offer varied forms of the complete line-up, highlighting how each member’s influence and culture have contributed to the collaborative creative process. As mentioned above they are all fantastic musicians, with their own individual successes, some of whom have national and international reputations.
Within the ensemble, some of the musicians have also been providing music workshops at youth groups and community centres across Scotland’s central-belt, available for all age groups and abilities, reflecting our shared goal of diversity and inclusion.
The musicians and can provide workshops at community groups, schools and festivals in a similar fashion, including lessons on percussion, dance, and vocals. Our facilitators are experienced in delivering high-energy and engaging activities for all skill levels, while creating a safe, inclusive space for participants.
